This is a long “news report” that appeared yesterday (October 14), except it’s not really a news report.  There’s nothing original here, just recapping of old news, repeating what has been written N times before.  So we’ve not translated what we’ve translated N times before but just summarized the points.  We have, however, translated the last part in full.

Good things are often bedeviled*, they say.  Park Si Hoo is the best example.  He leaped to stardom and his explosive popularity in Japan made him one of the biggest Hallyu stars and the successor of Bae Yong Joon and Jang Geun Suk in the Korean Wave.  But what happened one night caused Park Si Hoo to face the greatest crisis of his life.

After this promising opening, article goes on at length to recap the expiry of PSH’s contract with his old management agency, followed immediately by that sex scandal — all the details about suit and counter-suit, including with EYAGI’s Hwang, and the immense damage it did to PSH’s reputation and career.

The next part is about signs of PSH’s comeback.  Article mentions his greetings to fans on the launch of his Japan Official Fan Club in June 2013 and quotes at length the letter he posted on his Korean Official Fan Club Sihoorang that he wrote at 2 a.m. on July 29 in the U.S.A.  Then it goes on to Hoo Factory’s press release on October 3 in which PSH’s brother Park Woo Ho apologized for the incident and asked the media to refrain from mentioning it again. [ED: But it did not prevent this journalist from rehashing the details again!]  This is followed by PSH’s return to Korea two days later.

The Park Si Hoo side has made it clear that there will be no domestic activities this year.  But there is nothing to prevent him from engaging in overseas activities.  On November 21 Japan’s KNTV will air “Cheongdam-dong Alice” and there will be promotional events which could very well involve PSH.

PSH has been very popular in Japan since the broadcast of “Prosecutor Princess”, followed by “Queen of Reversals” and “The Princess’s Man” which are also great successes.  His domestic activities may have been suspended, but he is in constant contact with his Japanese fans through his JOFC.

Re-launching domestic activities can involve significant “labor pains”.  Although PSH’s legal problems are over, unfortunately the dispute with his former management agency has not been resolved.  The Korea Entertainment Management Association received a request for arbitration but the issue has not ended.

But both sides have not pursued the matter or made any specific requests, so it could just be terminated in due course.  It appears this stumbling block could be removed.  But there is one last obstacle to PSH’s comeback.

The problem is public opinion.  Park Si Hoo’s image has been damaged too much.  When both sides played the exposure game, even the victim’s name was exposed.  [ED: Hey!  The name of the accused is not supposed to be disclosed till the prosecutors decide to press charges, but PSH's name was revealed on DAY 1!]  It would be better if PSH’s innocence could be proved in a trial.  The way it was resolved gave the impression a helfty settlement was involved.  [ED: The case was settled in the best of all possible ways.  Who could trust a trial after all the travesty of justice displayed by the Korean police?  This journalist now has the nerve to talk about PSH proving his innocence in court when the K-media had all but condemned him before anything was proven.]

On the other hand, if PSH goes through a trial and is acquitted, his corrupted image could be recovered 100%, but it would take too long to resolve the incident.  [ED: That's not true.  Korean entertainers who were acquitted in court still took years to make their comeback, if at all.]  PSH was able to resolve his case in less than 100 days but not being vindicated in court would always cause a certain amount of controversy.  [ED: Only to Korean thinking.]  Eventually he will have to observe the trends of public opinion in this country and adjust the time of his comeback.

It is possible, however, for PSH to make an early comeback in Japan.  An entertainment official said: “Although a quick fix on the domestic front is difficult for him, activities in Japan could be a big help.  The rape case is no longer a problem in Japan because of its ‘No suspicion’ resolution and he can enjoy 1 -2 years of popularity there before heading back.”  [ED: We're willing to stick our neck out that it won't take PSH 1 - 2 years to make his comeback in Korea!]

* ED:  We must share this interesting translation tidbit with you, but only those who understand Chinese will understand what we’re going to say. The opening sentence in the article is very difficult to translate -  호사다마라고 – and doesn’t seem to make sense until we figured it out to be 好事多魔.  Oh!  It’s Chinese and it’s from a Chinese classic “Dream of the Red Chamber”.

The following explanation of phrase from Baidu:

美中不足，好事多魔（原文如此，“魔”不是错别字）。出自《红楼梦》，如果好事中多了魔鬼，好事也就变得美中不足了。这里的“魔鬼”，红楼梦中指“贾环”等告状这些不好的事情，把贾环这些人比喻成魔鬼。有时候，好事真的是乐极生悲哦。

我们经常看到的“好事多磨”是指好事要经历很多的磨难，而“好事多魔”是说在这其中还有很多的妖魔鬼怪从中作梗，实际上是说灾难的事情。有一点让人要居安思危的感觉。
